A drive down Belleville Avenue will give you a view of an old sign with a new name.

The new practice, named the D.W. McMillan Medical Center, is in the physician office complex formerly known as the Brewton Medical Center. A banner reflecting the name change has been added to the sign at the entrance to the facility.

According to officials with D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital, the announcement reflects their new Brewton based primary care physician practice. The medical facility is open and accepting new patients.

“Overall, the startup of the D.W. McMillan Medical Center has been a smooth process,” stated Rick Owens, Administrator at D.W. McMillan. “Our team, along with our transition crew, worked with Cerner to ensure the clinic system came onboard as planned. Normal patient volume may take a few months to stabilize, but the employees have done a great job throughout the conversion. By aligning the physician clinic directly with the hospital, we will work together to streamline purchasing, electronic records, employee pools, physician recruitment, and medical reimbursements. The viability of our health care system has definitely taken a step forward.”

The D.W. McMillan Medical Center includes physicians Dr. Elizabeth Low, Dr. Elizabeth Bataglia-Hillman,  Dr. James Walker, and Dr. Maria Villarreal. Also included are advanced practitioners Aleigh Taylor and Natalie Young. Additionally, Dr. Holly King-Stevens a new family practice physician will be joining the medical center in October. Recruiting efforts are ongoing for additional general and specialty physicians as well.

Hospital officials indicated that a seamless transition for area patients was completed with minimal issues, and the office will continue to adapt to the changes. Many of the modifications are behind the scenes so that patients have a smooth experience from start to finish.

“We will continue to work to improve our patient experience,” stated Stacy Hines, Chief Operating Officer at DWM. “We are working on several projects as we speak. Those include interior painting, room and pod labeling, exterior road and wayfinding signs, and new furniture for waiting areas.”

The D.W. McMillan Medical Center may be reached at 251-867-6071. The offices are located at 1121 Belleville Avenue and is home to the Medical Center Pharmacy.
