Jury term cancelled due to increase of COVID risks

Escambia County Circuit Court officials have announced the cancellation of the January 11 jury term.
Citing an increased in positive COVID-19 tests in the county, the cancellation is being done as a precaution to keep the virus from spreading among those participating in the term.
A statement released by Jeffrey Allan White, presiding Circuit Judge for the 121st Judicial Circut, states:
“Due to the significant increase in positive COVID-19 tests in Escambia County, Alabama, it is herby ordered that the January 11, 2021 jury term is cancelled. Jury terms will resume in March 2021 as scheduled. The District Attorney and defense counsel are encouraged to use the week of January 11, 2021 to discuss settlement. A circuit judge will be available to take pleas. All other large dockets will be managed by the judge presiding over said docket to mitgate the risk to the public and court personnel.”
