Plans being made for Earth Day activities

A community side clean up day has been set as part of Earth Day activities around the country.
The Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the cities of Brewton and East Brewton to coordinate efforts that are aimed at cleaning up the communities.
Saturday, April 24 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. has been set aside to accommodate clean up efforts by citizens. During this time, the city landfill will be open to the public free of charge. The landfill is located on Jay Road south of Brewton.
The City of East Brewton will have a trash truck available for East Brewton residents with pick-up available. Call 867-7998 to schedule a pick up. It is noted that no tires will be accepted through this pick up service.
In Brewton, residents may dispose of the following items in the following locations:
Automobile batteries: Auto Zone and O’Reilly Auto Parts
Automobile oil: Auto Zone and O’Reilly Auto Parts
Tires: Brewton City Shop dumpster with a limit of five tires per household
Old Appliances/Electronics: Jay Road Landfill during designated times; Electronics may be taken to the City Shop located next to the fire station (residents only)
Residents may also use dumpsters set up throughout the city for disposal of items. Please note that no household garbage, tires or electronics may be disposed of in the dumpsters.

District 1: Old Walmart Shopping Center behind Farmer’s Home Furnishings
District 2: New Beginnings parking lot
District 3: J.L. Fisher Center
District 4: Corner of East Jackson Street and Sowell Road
District 5: Behind Arby’s at entrance of E.O. Wilson Park.
These disposal times and locations are for residents only. No business or commercial organizations may use these disposal facilities.
This event is organized by the Brewton City Council’s Earth Day Committeee and the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce.
