Brewton area sees storm damage

Several roads have been blocked by fallen trees and downed power lines across the area in a wake of high winds and rains early Saturday.
According to reports, some roads remain closed as of 11 a.m. Saturday morning including Lowery Landon Road and Millpond Road in the Appleton community. In Brewton, Brookwood Road is blocked at the intersection of Spring Street as a result of downed power lines taken down by a tree. Other streets in the area are also partially blocked.
According to local meteorologist Spinks Megginson with RedZone Weather, the storms aren’t over for the area just yet.
“Despite a widespread damaging wind event across the region this morning, another round (Round 2 of 2) of strong to severe storms is ahead into the afternoon hours,” Megginson said. “Tornadoes, damaging winds, large hail, and flash flooding will be possible. There is a chance that hail could be particularly intense in some of the storms, perhaps up to golfball or tennis ball size. In addition, tornadoes and damaging winds capable of knocking down more trees will be possible. Please have a way to get urgent weather warnings later today. I will be able to give our entire region an all clear hopefully by the evening hours. Don’t let your guard down just because we have had a significant, widespread damaging wind event this morning! More storms are possibly on the way.”
