National network coming to Brewton Friday

With a flurry of national attention over the past year or so, Lisa McMillan is still being pushed into the limelight for her take on serving food to those who are hungry.
Drexell & Honeybees Donations Only Restaurant will be the subject of a “Spirit of America” piece to be produced by NBC New York. The film and interview crew will be arriving at the Brewton restaurant Friday morning.
“I’m so excited about this,” McMillan said. “This will be great for Brewton and great for the restaurant.”
McMillan said she was contacted by a staff member of the show last week.
Juliette Vara, segment producer for the NBC Macy’s July 4th Fireworks Spectacular said the segment is one she is looking forward to bring to life.
In a letter to McMillan, Vara said she was “overwhelmed” by the work McMillan does through her restaurant.
“I shared your story with our producers and they loved it too,” Vara said in her letter. “It’s a beautiful story of serving others and then them helping you in a time of need.”
McMillan said Vara also explained how she even heard about the restaurant in the first place.
“She said she saw the piece that was done by ‘It’s A Southern Thing’ and just knew she had to come see us to get us on there.”
Although McMillan doesn’t typically serve at the restaurant on Friday’s, this week she’s making an exception.
“We don’t normally serve lunch on Friday’s, but we will this week,” McMillan said. “We will serve from noon to 1 p.m. for dining in or to go. We ask that folks wait until noon to come since the crews will be busy until then.”
McMillan said diners can expect the same good food prepared daily at the restaurant for this special Friday meal.
“We will be preparing and serving just like we always do,” McMillan said. “We are hoping to have a good crowd to visit to the show staff can see how much the community supports our mission.”
Drexell & Honeybee’s is located at 109 Lee Street in downtown Brewton and is typically open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week from 11 a.m to 1 p.m serving cafeteria style for in-house dining and to-go plates. No prices are given for meals with diners only paying what they can, or nothing at all, McMillan said.
