McClung tapped as new superintendent for Escambia County Schools
Michele M. McClung was tapped as the new superintendent of education for the Escambia County School System this afternoon in Brewton.
ECSS Board Members met in the main courtroom at the Escambia County Courthouse to vote for the person who will take over as the superintendent with the departure of John Knott from the position next month.
In a 4 to 3 vote, McClung took the spot over Gary K. Glass with board members agreeing to consider their vote unanimous after a motion by board member Danny Benjamin with a second from Mike Edwards. All members of the board voted in agreement.
McClung currently serves as the Director of Teaching, Learning and Assessment with the Mobile County Public Schools Board of Education.
Board Chairwoman Cindy Jackson said McClung would be contacted concerning the position and will be subject to negotiations for the superintendent contract.
