A Brewton couple took top honors recently at the Alabama State Fair in Montgomery in the Welsh Honey Show event.

Dru and Connie Rush entered in a variety of competition events and were awarded for their efforts.

Connie Rush entered in the Dark Extracted Honey Notions, Lotions and Potions event and took top honors with her lip balm. The balm also won the ‘best of show’ award in the event. A first-place win also came with an entry of a Honey Cake in the cooking event. She also took second-place for her entry in the Light Extract Honey division with her bees wax block.

Dru Rush entered his Pig Daddy’s BBQ sauce in the competition and took first place honors in the division.

The couple are owners and operators of Pig Daddy’s BBQ in Brewton with Connie working and maintaining several hives of bees and selling the honey extracted on the family property in Appleton.
