Holiday decorations are slowly popping up around the community, but area merchants will be kicking things into high gear this week as they make final preparations for the annual Holiday Kick Off event set for Thursday afternoon.

The event being coordinated by the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce is a tradition among the business community offering shoppers an early opportunity to shop local for all of their holiday needs.

Mallory Hendrix, Chamber president, said the kick off line up will be one shoppers can enjoy while supporting local business.

“It’s always a great night to spend with friends and family shopping and having a good time,” Hendrix said. “It’s one of my most favorite nights of the year! We’ve got a great community that is proud to support our small businesses and we appreciate that more than they know.”

Participating merchants are planning special discounts and surprises during the open house hours from 4 to 7 p.m. Some businesses may be open earlier or later during this special kick off event.

“Clay Lisenby (at the L House) is doing Santa pictures and all the shops will stay open late,” Hendrix said. “The holiday kickoff is the perfect way to start the Christmas season. We’ve all got a lot to be thankful for!”
