Zack Boyington is working on recovery after suffering third degree burns last month.
The 26-year-old Damascus resident has been a patient at USA Medical Center’s burn unit since the accident on Jan. 22. He continues to receive treatment for his burns.
Boyington’s father, J.J., said the patient is in good spirits but has a long way to go to recovery.
“He’s handling it well,” J.J. said. “He didn’t want anyone to come see him at the hospital for a while because he didn’t look like himself. He is getting better but has a long way to go.”
After undergoing five procedures that include skin grafts, Zack will have to continue with physical therapy for the foreseeable future, his father said.
With no insurance, Zack is facing incredible medical bills.
For that reason, family and friends are organizing a fund raiser to help with expenses.
A logger by trade, Zack will be the benefactor from a benefit set for March 12 in front of Tractor Supply on Douglas Avenue in Brewton. The event is planned from 11 am. to 4 p.m. and will feature music by David Lynn Michaels. Chicken and pork plates with all the fixings will be available throughout the event.
A cake walk will be held with tickets at two for $5 for the event.
Those interested in the gun raffle, which features a Stephens 12 gauge pump, may purchase tickets for the drawing at Tractor Supply, Thomas Radiator, Camp 31 and O’Riley’s Auto Parts. Tickets are $10 each.
The Bike Run, which begins at 9 am. has a $15 entry fee which entitles the rider to a dinner plate. Bikers will leave Tractor Supply in Brewton at approximately 9 a.m. and ride to Tractor Supply in Andalusia and make a return trip to Brewton.
A special Go Fund Me page has been established on-line. To donate. go to www.gofundme.com and search for “Help Zack Pay His Medical Expenses.”
