There may be no better way to spend a spring Sunday afternoon than to be fed and entertained at Jennings Park.
On Sunday, April 24 Jennings Park will be filled with the aroma of seafood boiling and the sounds of great music for the annual Kick It At The Creek event sponsored by the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce.
Stacey Holt, president of the organization, said the event has become one that area residents look forward to each spring.
“I know that people are looking forward to a chance to get out and mingle and be together,” Holt said. “We are looking forward to that for this event.”
Holt said some hard work has gone into planning this annual Chamber event.
“I would like to give a huge thanks to Lee Barrentine, our president-elect,” Holt said. “He is over the committee for this event and has taken it and run with it. He has done an excellent job of getting things ready for this event.”
Holt also praised the work of Taylor Jackson for her volunteer efforts as well.
“Taylor designed our T-shirts and coozies for this year,” Holt said. “She continues to volunteer her time for the Chamber and we are delighted with this year’s deisgns.”
Those T-shirts and coozies will be available on-site at Jennings Park during event hours. Any remaining shirts or coozies will be available at the Chamber office following the event.
Musical guests will be The Wolfe Johns Blues Band who will be providing entertainment throughout the three-hour event.
The event offerings have grown this year and will include new faces at the park.
“The Brewton Fire Department will be on hand serving up beignets keeping with that New Orleans theme,” Holt said. “They will be working to raise funds for their charity and we are happy to have them join us this year.”
Brewton Brew will also be on hand for the afternoon offering a wide variety of coffee drinks and other offerings.
Slated to begin at 2 p.m., the annual event will feature crawfish and shrimp with all the extras to accompany the meal. Crawfish plates or shrimp plates will be $20 each with a combo plate for $25.
David’s Catfish House and Peach Chevrolet haved teamed up with the Chamber to sponsor the annual outing.
Executive Director Judy Crane said no pre-orders will be taken this year for the meal.
“We have ordered more crawfish and shrimp this year than we did last year,” Crane said. “We won’t be doing pre-orders or ticket sales this year. It will be a first-come, first-served event this year.”
Jennings Park is located next to Burnt Corn Creek in historic downtown Brewton.
