D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital announced that Rainer Birk, M.D., Board Certified Internal Medicine physician has joined the medical staff as a Hospitalist. He began seeing patients this week.
“We welcome Dr. Birk to the D.W. McMillan staff and look forward to him being part of our Hospitalist Program,” stated Stacy Hines, Hospital Administrator. “In the past, we have worked with different physician groups as well as our local primary care physicians to provide hospitalist coverage and heavily leaned on Dr. Scott Moore to serve as our primary hospitalist. Dr. Birk and Dr. Moore will split Hospitalist coverage for DWM as we continue to develop the program here at our hospital.”
Dr. Birk is no stranger to our area or our hospital. Dr. Birk stated, “In 2009, I worked for Santa Rosa Medical Center’s wound care clinic in Brewton and from 2008 to 2020 I helped develop the Hospitalist program at Andalusia Regional Hospital. I look forward to creating a more comprehensive hospitalist team for DWM.”
Dr. Birk received his Doctor of Medicine from National University of Cuyo School of Medicine in Mendoza, Argentina. He then went to complete his internal medicine residency at Yale University School of Medicine in Danbury, Conn. Upon graduation, Dr. Birk worked for North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison, Ark., and Andalusia Health in Andalusia.
