A Memorial Day ceremony will be held in Brewton on Monday, May 30 beginning at 9 a.m. on the lawn of the Escambia County Courthouse on Belleville Avenue.
The ceremony, which dates back to 1983, has become an annual event hosted by the Americaion Legion Post 79 in Brewton.
Joe Dozier, commander of the American Legion Post 79 and one of the organizers for the event said a display will honor deceased military personnel from the area.
“We have people who have been bringing memorabilia to share since we started,” Dozier said. “Anyone who wants to bring memorabilia to share is welcome to do so.”
During the ceremony, the names of those fallen soldiers who are listed on the memorial situated on the grounds of the Escambia County Courthouse, will be read by Charles Jackson.
“The ceremony is to show respect and honor to those from Escambia County (Alabama) who gave their lives in service to their country and God,” Dozier said.
The ceremony is highlighted by the placing of a wreath at the foot of the monument bearing the names of fallen soldiers from Escambia County.
The ceremony will also feature musical selections led by members of the American Legion Post 79. The public is invited.
