Holidays to get official ‘kick-off’ Thursday evening

Merchants throughout the community are sprucing up and dressing up this week as they prepare for the annual Holiday Kick-off event set for Thursday.
With activities beginning at 4 p.m., the retail district will come to life with holiday attractions, sales and even a little food and entertainment.
The annual event is coordinated through the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce on the Thursday before Thanksgiving. This year, merchants are moving to make special efforts to keep holiday dollars in the community.
As many merchants continue to finalize plans for Thursday evening’s festivities, many have already put their plans into place.
Among those plans, Herrington’s the Florist in mid-town will be offering special discounts with 20 percent off storewide during the event and will include refreshments for visitors. On their campus, Herrington’s will be hosting Just Nonnies Gourmet good and Brewton Brew will be offering some warm drinks for the cool evening.
The Junior Class of T.R. Miller High School will also be set up at Herrington’s, offering a chili bar that includes all the fixings, plus cornbread muffins and a drink for $10 with proceeds to benefit funding for this year’s prom. Chili-cheese dogs and a drink will be $5 and Indian Vada Balls (spicy mashed potato balls, lightly battered and fried) will be four for $5.
In downtown Brewton, Antigone’s will be offering door prizes and a store-wide sale for shoppers. On-site at the historic location, Antigone’s will be hosting Pig Daddy’s BBQ, Allure, Elite Nutrition, Amedisys, Shuga Beanz and Jennifer Ponson Jewelry.
Downtown Brewton’s newest merchant, The Olive Branch, will also be participating in the special holiday event. The store will be open until 7 p.m. offering 20 percent off purchases and refreshments for shoppers.
Jus-Do, in the mid-town area, will be open until 8 p.m. offering a store-wide sale with 20 percent off purchases. The location on Douglas Avenue will feature members of the Brewton Civic League with their cookboos and The Brewton Arts Council will have information and tickets for performances available. The Brewton MIddle School will have a bake sale on site as well.
Also in the mid-town area along Douglas Avenue, Talula Belle’s will be decked out and ready to spend some time with shoppers and feature their very own Elf. There will be a storewide sale, door prizes, a photo wall, refreshments and entertainment.
And, of course, Santa will be in town just in time for a photo session at The L House in Midtown. Santa will be ready for phots from 4 to 7 p.m. Clay Lisenby, photographer and owner, will be providing two images per sitting for $20 session fee when paid by cash or check at the event. Children can also leave their wishlists with the Jolly old Elf as well.
Weaver’s of Brewton, located on the boardwalk in downtown Brewton, wil be offering 20 percent off fine jewelry and a special sale on Ts. There will be buy-one-get-one 50 percent off throughout the store. Paws Crossed willbe on site. Squirrel’s BBQ will be on hand selling BBQ Sundaes and Brunswick Stew. You may even catch a glimps of a special guest with The Grinch!
Also on the Boardwalk, My Brother’s Keeper Home Care will be set up serving up some great hot coffee and treats.
Staying in the downtown area, Shug’s Soul Food will be open and offering a special menu of homemade red beans and rice, chili, delicious desserts and refreshing strawberry lemonade during the kick-off event.
A little off the beaten path, you’ll find discounts of 10 percent off wine accessories at Junavelli Winery, located at 357 Gumtree Lane. You’ll also find customizable gift baskets to purchase or order, cookies from Gum Tree Lane Homemade Goods and mulled wine as refreshments. If the weather is just right, you’ll even have a chance to enjoy an outdoor fire with supplies for making s’mores.
Creamer Power Equipment at 1291 South Blvd., will be open and serving great hot chocolate for the evening. It’s your chance to see the latest in power equipment and register for a zero-turn Ariens mower to be given away in Febrary. Every $100 spent will receive one entry for the drawing.
The Brewton Dance Studio will be traveling up the road to David’s Catfish House to have the Twril Stars entertain. There will be two performances beginning at 6 and 7 p.m.
