Warmer than usual temperatures for this time of year has gotten many people outside enjoying the sunshine and fresh air.
This weekend will be no exception and the activities planned by the City of Brewton will provide an opportunity to welcome spring just a couple weeks early.
The annual “Come Fly With Me” event is set for Saturday, March 4 at Dogwood Hills Park on north Douglas Avenue.
Connie Baggett, director of programs for the City of Brewton, said the event continues to grow with each year.
“Come Fly with Me has grown into a fun event with parents and children and grandparents — really all age groups,” Baggett said. “It’s fun to be outdoors and enjoy time together and have lunch on the greens.”
The event will kick off at 10 a.m. at the park. Kites will be available at the park with the Brewton Fire Department cooking up lunch for those who attend.
The field of Dogwood Hills will be open for kite flyers without obstacles.
The weather forecast for Saturday is calling for clear, blue, sunny skies with a high in the low 70s, making it a perfect day for kite flying and enjoying the great outdoors.
Last year’s event drew several dozen participants of all ages. Along with kite flying, the biking paths will be open and chalk art along the sidewalks will be available.
There is no charge to participate in the event and lunch will be provided at no charge.
