An altercation between a father and son lead to shots being fired and injuries that sent both men to the hospital.
Escambia County Sheriff Heath Jackson said the incident occurred last Wednesday (July 26) afternoon in the Pollard community.
“We responded to a ‘shots fired’ call around 4 p.m. on Wednesday,” Jackson said. “The incident occurred in the 900 block of Old Hwy. 31 in Pollard at a residence.”
Jackson said officers arrived on the scene found two men injured as a result of the incident.
“Upon arrival, a male subject was found laying in the front yard of the residence suffering from numerous gunshot wounds,” Jackson said. “A second male subject had gone to D.W. McMillan Hospital by private, personal vehicle after suffering a large gash to the back of his head.”
After officers secured the scene, the initial findings were that the father and son had argued prior to the incident.
“The father and son had a verbal argument,” Jackson said. “Our initial investigation revealed that the son struck the father with a firearm causing his injury. The father then drew his firearm and shot the son numerous times.”
Jackson said the father was treated for his injuries and released. The son was airlifted to a Pensacola, Fla., trauma center where he continues to be treated as of press time Tuesday.
Jackson said the case is still under investigation. No details concerning the nature of the argument that resulted in the altercation have been released.
Jackson said no charge charges have been filed against the father and no other charges have been filed pending the outcome of the investigation by his department.
No names were released.
