Sunday afternoon brought smiles to many faces as the official re-opening of Jack and Jill Preschool was held complete with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
East Brewton First Baptist Church Pastor Macon Phillips introduced staff for the preschool and offered a prayer for their work prior to the ribbon cutting.
Stacey Aaron is director for the pre-school and will also be teaching four-year-olds who attend. She said their have been some mixed emotions as the opening of the school approaches.
“I’m excited,” Aaron said. “I’ve also been a little anxious at times. Sometimes I get nervous about it all, but when those children came to open house on Monday the excitement returned. It’s going to be good.”
Aaron is joined by Samantha Cash who will serve as the teacher for the three-year-old class. McKenzie Jerkins will work at the school as an aide for both teachers.
Also on hand for the opening ceremonies were daughters of long-time director of Jack and Jill, Carolyn Dunaway. Andrea Pacaroni and Cathy Guy assisted in the official opening of the school their mother once directed and taught.
Aaron is entering this new journey on the heels of retiring from the Escambia County School System after teaching for 25 years.
“I thought I would just teach for 25 years or so and then retire,” Aaron said. “But, God presented this opportunity and I couldn’t pass it up. I’m excited and ready for our students.”
Students will attend their first day of classes on Friday when they arrive at 7:45 a.m.
