Atmore man held on murder charge

An Atmore man remained behind bars as of press time facing a murder charge stemming from an incident that occured on Saturday near Atmore.
According to Escambia County Sheriff Heath Jackson, members of Escambia County Deputies responded to a call on Jack Springs Road.
Officers were joined at the scene by Poarch Tribal Police and the Atmore Police Department at 7400 Jack Springs Road, Jackson said.
“Officers responded to a call in reference to a shots fired disturbance,” Jackson said. “Upon arrival a male victim was located inside of a mobile home deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. During the investigation, Wendell White was developed as the suspected shooter and was later taken into custody and charged with 1 count of Murder.”
Jackson said White was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center where he was held without bond pending a court appearance.
Jackson said an investigation is continuing in the case.
“The motive of the shooting is still under investigation,” Jackson said.
The victim was identified, Deangelo Bailey, 33, who was identified as a resident at the same mobile home park where the incident took place.
The address is listed as the location for Big Oak Mobile Home Park on Jack Springs Road near Atmore.
No other details in the case have been released by Jackson or other law enforcement agencies.
