TR Miller High School has received a classroom grant from the Alabama Power Foundation. Funds from the grant will be used for a vermicomposting project at the school. Vermicomposting uses worms to help create compost material for plants. Benefits of this method of composting include enhanced plant growth, decreased diseases in plants, increased microbial activity in the soil, better water retention and aeration and reduced need for chemical fertilizers. The school is partnering with the Escambia County Extension Service to provide assistance in collecting and presenting research from the project.
