Pet owners know about the costs involved in owning a pet. From food to vet care, the cost to own a pet — along with everything else — has risen.
With several dozen dogs currently in Paws Crossed Dog Rescue, the expenses of upkeep of the shelter facility as well as providing food and care for fostered animals, the expenses continue to mount. In an effort to help cover some of that cost, the group is holding a special yard sale this weekend to help raise funds to cover some of those costs.
The sale will be held Friday and Saturday with a start time of 7 a.m. both days. The sale will close at 4 p.m. on Friday and at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Edie Kelley, one of the members of the board for Paws Crossed, said the funds raised from the sale will help to cover costs of vehicle tag and insurance for the van used by the group for transport and services.
“Our van is utilized to transport rescue dogs and privately owned dogs to low-cost spay and neuter clinics in Montgomery and Ocean Springs, Miss.,” Kelley said. “It helps us to take multiple dogs to pet visits, adoption events and other types of transports. Van expenses average about $1,500 per year for tags, insurance and maintenance.”
Paws Crossed volunteers have been collecting, sorting, priceing and preparing a multitude of items for thes big sale.
“There will be some home decor, furniture, cloths and so many other items at the sale,” Kelley said. “We appreciate all the support we get from the community.”
Paws Crossed Dog Rescue continues to support a fixed shelter as well as providing fosters with supplies to care for animals in their care.
As vet bills continue to exist, the group also encourages donations on “Five Buck Friday” each week to help defray expenses for care of animals taken into the rescue.
The $5 donations can be made at Brewton Animal Hospital by phone at 867-4355 or in person at 102 East Granberry Street in mid-town with a mention that the donation is for Paws Crossed. Donations may also be made through Venmo: @ALpaws; or by PayPal at pawscrossedrescue@yahoo. com.
