In a Tuesday meeting of the Escambia County Commission, approval to change speed limits on three roads in the county was made.
Drivers who travel on North Baggett Circle and South Baggett Circle will have to slow down. The speed limit will be reduced from 25 miles per hour to 15 miles per hour following the approval by commissioners.
On Jimmy Sellers Road, the speed limit was approved for setting at 15 miles per hour due to curves and safety issues.
In other business, the commission agreed to post a “No Through Trucks” sign on Grissett Bridge Road.
“Maintenance is a major problem on that road,” Commissioner Larry White said. “We don’t want to impose on the folks using that road and I want to thank our engineers for working on an agreement with those who use the road.”
Assistant County Engineer Brad Soloman said the road is currently used regularly by sand and gravel trucks.
“That road has taken a severe beating by those trucks,” Solomon said. “We have spoken with the sand and gravel suppliers in the area and they have agreed to stay off the road.”
Also during Tuesday’s meeting, the commission:
• awarded the annual bid for crushed aggregate to various suppliers;
• adopted a resolution for a Severe Weather Preparedness Tax Holiday set for February 2024.
