The T.R. Miller tigers played host to the Anniston bulldogs Friday night in Brewton for the first round of AHSAA playoffs in 4A play. Coming into the game as the #2 spot in the region, the Tigers are looking for another run to the championship game for the state title. T.R. Miller finished the regular season with a 7-3 record overall and a 5-2 record in region play.

Anniston would dominate the first half scoring two touchdowns and making two-point conversions have both to put them in the lead, 16-0.

The Tigers battled some rain and a few miscues during the first half of play and failed to put any points on the board but held Anniston on the field forcing punts twice in the first quarter and three in the second quarter.

At the half, Anniston lead the Tigers 16-0.

The Tigers would be fresh and ready to roll in the second half and quickly put some points on the board. The Tigers’ first points would come after a fumble recovery putting the Tigers in the end zone. A good PAT and they put 7 on the board. Another Anniston bobble sees the ball get loose and is quickly recovered by the Tigers. It wouldn’t take the Tigers long to find the end zone and another good PAT kick to put more points on the board making it a two-point game. Anniston 16, TRM 14.

It would be late in the fourth quarter before T.R. Miller would find themselves in the lead for the first time on the night. A touchdown run was followed by a failed two-point conversion, but the Tigers hold the lead 20 to 16.

Anniston would give their best effort in the closing minutes of the game and threaten a touchdown, but the Tiger defense prevented it from happening. As the Tigers get the ball with 1:32 left to play, Commander gets the ball and takes a knee on the play and the Tigers watch the numbers tick down to double-0 with a win in the books.

The 20 to 16 win over Anniston, means the Tigers will be heading into the second round of playoff action. The opponent and location for that game will be determined following play in 4A action tonight.
