The annual Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce membership meeting, was held Tuesday evening naming the community’s Citizen of the Year.

Clay Lisenby was honored with the award with many attributes cited in the presentation.

Chamber President Hal Whitman presented the award to Lisenby for his tireless efforts in helping to make events and happenings in Brewton the best they can be.

“He is always there for anything we may need,” Whitman said. “He was the person responsible for bringing us PorchFest and it has become one of our biggest events. He was also a founding member of the Rodeo committee and I could go on and on about what he has done for our community.”

Lisenby was humble in accepting the honor.

“I do it because it’s home,” Lisenby said. “There’s no place better than Brewton.”

Also honored in the Humanitarian division of awards was Paws Crossed Dog Rescue. The organization was praised for their work and dedication to help animal issues in the area. Chamber President-Elect Melissa McMillan presented the award praising their work in fund raising, spay and neuter programs, adoptions and other area of their work.

Kylee Walton, a student at T.R. Miller High School, was named the recipient of the Donnie Rotch Excellence in Achievement Award.

Nia Nolan, a student at W.S. Neal High School, was named the Phillip Ellis Excellence in Achievement Award recipient.

Both students will receive a $1,000 scholarship thanks to generous contributions from David’s Catfish House and Danny Cottrell.

Outgoing Chamber President Lee Barrentine presented special recognition plaques to Stacy Holt and Julie VanDeWater as they leave the Chamber Board of Directors positions.

Board members for 2024 are Lee Barrentine – Past President; Leslie Douglas, April Bethea, Ashley Chavers, Faith Burt, Mark Word, Lynn Stallworth, Rob Kirkland, Neil Jerkins, Donna Mancil and Betsy Miller.
