The world is turning greener by the day and the Brewton Bee Garden Center is following suit.
After being closed during the winter season, the local market has re-opened with plenty of flowering and green plants to spruce up gardens and front porches as spring approaches.
Owners Michael English and Hillary Herrington are also adding new items to help make the yards around the area more beautiful.
“We have added a lot of new things this season,” Herrington said. “We’ve added a variety of terra cotta planters and have outdoor furniture made by local people. We want to eventually become a one-stop show with everything you would need for a garden or planting.”
Herrington said they hope to ad more containers, potting soil and other gardening items in the coming months.
“We always have good, clean pine straw in stock,” Herrington said. “We have added bedding and vegetable plants this year as well.”
English said the new spring hours will allow shoppers a chance to drop by.
“We will be here from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday,” English said. “People who get off work at 4:30 or after still have time to stop by and get what they need. We plan to be here on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or until the last customer is served.”
English said that now is the time to plant fruit trees, something they Center is proud to offer.
“Now is the time to plant fruit trees and we have some beautiful trees ready to plant,” English said. “We have a variegated lemon tree that people have been asking for and they are ready to be planted now. Fruit trees need to be planted in the early spring or in the fall so the time is right now for planting.”
Ferns and geraniums are always popular in the spring, and Herrington said there are plenty in stock.
“We have a lot of ferns in several varieties,” Herrington said. “Those pre-spring ferns and geraniums are really beautiful now.”
Herrington said the Center is also offering services to area businesses to help keep the city colorful and pretty.
“We are also offering our services to come to businesses with planters that are in need of refreshing,” Herrington said. “I have done that for a few and would be happy to help others as well.”
Herrington and English are happy to answer questions about planting, growing and maintaining plants and trees for any season.
The Brewton Bee Garden Center is located at 209 Mildred Street in Brewton at the food of the Murder Creek bridge.
