For six years, Drexell & Honeybees Donations Only Restaurant has been serving people in the Brewton area without asking for anything in return.
Lisa and Freddie McMillan may not have known what would be in store for them six years ago, but the couple has been a blessing to many — even around the world.
The mission of the local restaurant is simple — feed the need. No cashier accepts payment for a meal with a private donation box set up to receive any donations — or none at all.
The response of the community through donations has kept the restaurant serving for six years and a celebration is planned to commemorate the milestone.
The McMillan’s will be up early Tuesday, March 26, as they prepare a barbecue feast for the community.
“We will begin serving at 11 a.m. and go until 1 p.m. or until everything is gone,” Lisa said. “We want to invite everyone to come celebrate with us.”
The meal will include barbecued ribs, chicken, chicken wings, beef brisket and smoked portk.
And some good country cooking will accompany those meats including baked beans, macaroni and cheese, corned beef and cabbage, coleslaw and potato salad. Party-goers will also enjoy corn salad, fruit salad, kale power salad, ham sallad and a variety of desserts including watermelon.
The restaurant is located at 109 Lee Street near the intesection of St. Joseph Avenue. Normal business hours are from 11 a.m. until on Tuesday, Wedensday and Thursday each week.
