As one group of seniors graduates from the Blueberry Trail Maid program, another group has been selected to take on the role.
Holly Shirley, coordinator for the group, said the outgoing group of ladies have shown great growth and grace as the inaugural group for the program.
“We have had a phenomenal crew this year,” Shirley said. “Having to navigate two schools’ schedules was daunting at times. But, we managed to make the program good for our Maids.”
Outgoing Blueberry Trail Maids include Baylie Wyatt, Alexus Stewart, Madison Simpson, Morgan Hicks, Emily Pettis, Demiyah Floyd, Belle Walker, Catherine Brewer, JaSara Grace Peters, Abby Black, Alexandria Brooks and Olivia Beasley.
Incoming Blueberry Trail Maids are Allie Morgan, Edie Walker, Ellie McMillan, Jayda Lindsey, Jenna Fountain, Jordan Kelly, Kennedy Adkison, Maegan Bondurant and Sanaa Spears.
“This year, our young ladies participated in panel interviews, raised money for their dresses at the Blueberry Festival, decorated The Holley House and served as hostesses of the Christmas Open House where they raised money to purchase Christmas gifts for Camille Place in Monroe County,” Shirley said. “They attended the Alabama Shakespeare Festival as a group, had a float in the MLK Parade, and ENDED the year with an etiquette class and zoom calls from some very successful women from around the world. They were also matched with mentors in their chosen fields of study.”
Shirley said the group of young ladies who served in the first Blueberry Trail Maid group, did so with great enthusiasm.
“We are so proud of the amazing young women who represented The Holley House and Brewton this year,” Shirley said. “It has been our honor to work with them and get to know each of them.”
During Saturday’s ceremony, Grace Peters was chosen to be the first-ever Blueberry Trail Maid Queen. The honor also brought with it a $1,000 scholarship to help with her continuing education. Others in the group were presented with special awards for their dedication, fund raising efforts and outstanding achievements.
Shirley said the newest Maids will begin work quickly with plans to participate in the upcoming Alabama Blueberry Festival.
Shirley said the goal of the group is to work with top young women in Brewton to improver their leadership skills and prepare the next generation to become gracious hostesses.
