Sitting down to a dinner of deer, squirrel, quail or any other kind of wild game could be at the top of a bucket list for some people. Those folks may get their wish this weekend as the First Baptist Church of Brewton hosts the 22nd annual Wild Game Supper.
Church officials say ticket sales have gone well, but tickets will be available at the door for $6 each.
In addition a unique dinner being served, those who attend the event may get a little comic relief with the presentation of the events keynote speaker.
Dennis Swanberg is known nationally as “America’s Minister of Encouragement” and “the Swan” and will be delivering the main address during the evening beginning at 6 p.m.
Swanberg’s performances often include impersonations of celebrities such as James Stewart, Mr. Haney from Green Acres, Forrest Gump, Paul Lynde and Barney Fife. The Christian comedian also includes impersonations of evangelical preachers including Billy Graham, W.A. Criswell and Adrian Rogers. In addition to his multi-personality presentations, the humorist also includes stories taken from experiences throughout his life including his history as a Baptist preacher for more than 20 years.
The annual event gives chefs an opportunity to show off their skills when it comes to preparing dishes using wild game as the main ingredient. For those who wish to enter a contest for the food, dishes must be prepared and delivered to the church by 4 p.m. Saturday, organizers said. Prizes for the best wild game dish will be awarded following the meal.
A Big Buck Contest winner will also be named during Saturday’s event with prizes given for the biggest buck killed with a bow and with a gun. Entries for the Big Buck Contest must be submitted by Jan. 30 with the deer being killed in the state during the last three years. Mounts should be brought to the church on the day of the supper no later than 3 p.m.
Tickets may be purchased at the church office on Belleville Avenue before Saturday and can be purchased at the door on the evening of the event.
