As the Brewton Little League regular season came to a close Thursday evening, it went out with a bang.

In three games played, 77 runs were scored. Fourteen of those came from the 11-12 Tigers, who closed their season with a win over the Rockies. In the other 11-12 game, the Brewers beat the Rangers, 17-8, while the Astros beat the Marlins 27-3 in the only 9-10 Division game.

TIGERS 14, ROCKIES 8

The Tigers used timely hitting and several huge defensive plays to record their first win over the Rockies in their regular-season finale.

While Jonathan Lucas was slamming a home run, double and scoring three times, his teammates were getting quite defensive. Lucas, the Tiger catcher, started a double play with a diving catch of a bunt, while shortstop Will Smith and centerfielder Austin Holmes made stellar plays as well.

Duncan Brittain helped lead the winners at the plate with two hits, including a double, while Ethan Bollenbacher (2B), Noah Morris, Smith and Jordan Williams (3 runs scored) had hits.

The Rockies’ Trippe Floyd had a pair of hits, including a long home run and a double. He also scored three times. Christopher Gehman was 2-for-3 with a triple, while Hunter Brittain was 2-for-3 with two doubles. Kellyn Winn and Alex Daugherty each contributed a double.

BREWERS 17, RANGERS 8

Scoring nine runs in the first inning helped the Brewers (12-2) to the win. In all they slapped 20 hits and the pitching combination of Jared Cooper, Brooks Brown, Caleb Winton, Joshua Winton and Tyler Hoomes allowed just seven hits.

Brown led the Brewers with a perfect night at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and four runs scored. Hoomes (3 RBIs) and Ethan Tyree had three hits each.

Joshua Winton (3 RBIs) and Dakota Stokes each had two hits, with Stokes hitting his first home run of the season well over the left-field fence. Cooper (RBI) and Christian Alvarez (RBI) also had two hits, while Tyler Baxter and Caleb Winton also had RBI hits.

Timothy McDonald led the Rangers with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate, with a double, while Landon Salter, Christian Mancil, Grant Youngblood, Garrett Salter and Harrison Hughes (RBI) each had a hit as well.

ASTROS 27, MARLINS 3

Daniel Blair had four hits and scored five runs for the league champion Astros. Hayden Atkinson (three runs scored) and Joseph Nance (two runs) each contributed three hits.

On the mound, Davis Wade and Atkinson combined for a no-hitter. Wade got the win, pitching two innings and striking out five, while giving up

The following are games from last week that were not published in Wednesday’s paper:

BREWERS 9, ROCKIES 3

The Brewers scored eight of their runs in the second inning and never looked back, moving within one win of clinching the league championship.

They did so thanks to the strength of 2-3-4 hitters Tyler Hoomes (2 RBIs), Ethan Tyree (2 RBIs) and Jared Cooper (RBI) being a combined 9-of-11 at the plate, with Hoomes and Cooper getting triples and Tyree a double.

After no one scored in the first, the Brewers sent 13 batters to the plate in the second frame. In all, the Brewers had 14 hits.

Aside from the nine already mentioned, Caleb Winton added a double, single and an RBI and Dakota Stokes had two hits and two RBIs.

Brooks Brown had a double and Joshua Winton added an RBI as well. Cooper got the win, yielding no hits and striking out eight before giving way to Tyree in relief in the fifth.

The Rockies’ three hits came off the bats of Alex Daugherty (2-for-3, including a double) and Hunter Brittain, who slapped a two-run home run in the fifth.

TIGERS 13, RANGERS 3

Relying on the power of a masterful pitching performance by Jordan Williams, the Tigers were able to end the Rangers’ five-game win streak. Williams pitched his most impressive game of the year, firing four innings of no-hit ball with four strikeouts and no runs allowed.

In the meantime, his teammates were racking up 11 hits, including two-hit outings from Duncan Brittain (2B, 3 RBIs), Will Smith and Ethan Bollenbacher (2B, 2 RBIs).

Williams aided his own cause with an RBI triple and two runs scored, while Austin Holmes (2B, RBI), Jonathan Lucas (2-run homer), Deangelo Thomas (RBI single) and Stokes Jennings each had hits.

For the Rangers, Lane Clark led the team with a pair of hits, while Drew Williamson and Landon Salter added a hit apiece.

MARLINS 12, BRAVES 7

Cameron Pope and Matt Smith combined as the Marlins held on late to get the win. Pope started the game and pitched three innings, registering a four-hitter with seven strikeouts. Smith ended up getting the win with two innings of relief that netted two strikeouts and just one hit. Pope helped out his own cause with a three-run, inside-the-park homerun in the 1st inning.

Andrew Etheridge hit two more triples and added a single to lead the Marlins at the plate. Hunter Johnson also got a hit.

Steven McCall led the Braves at the plate with a third inning grand slam in-the-park homer that tied the score at 5-5. Matthew Bradford added a single and a double, while Joseph Blackburn and Brandon Smith also got hits for the Braves.

RANGERS 10,

FLOMATON RED SOX 7

Christian Mancil, Garrett Salter, Harrison Hughes and Jackson Deatherage combined for the win on the mound.

All together, they allowed just five hits, struck out two and walked two.

Tim McDonald led the way at the plate for the Rangers with a pair of singles.  Drew Williamson, Lane Clark, Grant Youngblood, Hughes, Mancil, and Salter all contributed singles.

ROCKIES 9, EB YANKEES 2

Thanks to the combination of Alex Daugherty and Kellyn Winn on the mound, the Rockies beat the East Brewton Yankees. The duo joined together for seven strikeouts.

The Rockies were led at the plate by O’Neil White, who slapped a two-run single, while Hunter Brittain added an RBI double, Christopher Gehman added an RBI single and River Johnson had a hit. Daugherty, Jake Najor and Trippe Floyd all scored twice.

TIGERS 14,

EB CARDINALS 6

In winning their second straight game, the Tigers increased a 4-3 third-inning lead with a five-run fourth and a three-run fifth to win going away.

In doing so, both Will Smith and Jonathan Lucas blasted three-run bombs way beyond the outfield fence to put it out of reach.

When it was all said and done, the Tigers got two hits apiece from Duncan Brittain (2B, RBI) and Stokes Jennings in aid of Smith’s 3-for-3 performance.

Markail Mitchell added a two-run double, as did Austin Holmes.

Deangelo Thomas, Noah Morris, Ethan Bollenbacher and Jordan Williams all scored for the Tigers.

Jennings got the win on the mound with a four-hit, five strikeout performance.
