After losing to Monroe County Friday night 30-20 on the road for Monroe’s homecoming, the W.S. Neal Eagles look to get their first win on their homecoming this Friday night against B.C. Rain.

W.S. Neal enters the game this week 0-6 overall and 0-4 in region play while B.C. Rain is 1-5 overall and 1-3 in region play.

W.S. Neal Eagle head coach Kevin Jordan said despite the loss Friday at Monroe County, his team put forth a great effort.

“First of all, after watching the film, I thought our kids played hard from beginning to end,” Jordan said. “We were very short-handed as we dressed out 28 players. Unfortunately, we had some kids that broke team rules and did not dress out. We had six not dress out and two of those were starters on both sides of the ball. We had another three or four out with injuries. We were very short-handed Friday night, but the kids that dressed out played extremely hard.”

Jordan said with that being said, his team shot themselves in the foot numerous times.

“That is something we are continuously working on is getting ourselves in position to win the game and once you are in that position, you have to close it out,” Jordan said. “That is something we are preaching and working on everyday in practice and we have to carry it to the game.”

As for B.C. Rain this week, Jordan says offensively they are a spread team.

“They move the ball around a good bit but they will line up and run it as well,” Jordan said. “They like to get in the spread and throw the ball around. They have a really good quarterback and good wide receivers at the skill positions. It will be a challenge for us on defense as they have a lot of spread.”

Against B.C. Rain’s defense, Jordan said the Red Raiders will mostly run a four-man front.

“They like to run a lot of cover-2 out of that,” Jordan said. “They run a 4-3, cover 2. They have got a big time SEC prospect at defensive end, No. 15, Devaunte Sigler. He has numerous SEC offers and is a kid we will make sure we account for every play. They run to the ball real well defensively and that is something we will have to prepare for no doubt.”

As for homecoming and a homecoming win, Jordan says his team just needs to win.

“We need a win period,” Jordan said. “Homecoming or whatever the situation may be, we need a win to get our confidence up. We have been in some ballgames that we could not close the deal on so we need to win those games and get over the hump. A win would be very big for us and that is what our job is. You always want your kids involved in homecoming festivities, but at the same time, we need to play well and win the football game. That is what the people come to see. They want you to win your football game. So, we are going to have a good week of practice and go out and play well Friday night.”

Game time is set for 7 p.m. in East Brewton at W.S. Neal Stadium with homecoming festivities planned during the day.
