Escambia County commissioners said “no” one more time to a county man hoping to develop a subdivision off Snyder Road.
Mason Fleming said he had hoped to develop 13 lots on the property.
“Everyone but the county commission has given it their blessing,” he said.
But county engineer Bill Bridges said the problem with the subdivision is that an access road, which Fleming said he put in at his expense, does not meet county standards.
“We developed these regulations to try to protect people,” Bridges said. “We informed you of the rules even before you built the road. We need to be able to inspect it. It would be for the developer’s benefit, too. None of the regulations were followed.”
Fleming sought Monday to have commissioners designate the subdivision a private subdivision with a private road, but Bridges said even then the road would need to meet county regulations.
“Well, I might as well forget it,” Fleming told commissioners before he left the meeting.
In other business Monday:
• Christy Black of BankTrust gave commissioners her recommendation for reinvesting a CD for the county’s oil and gas trust fund. Black said the best rate she could find was .9 percent interest for 12 months at First Exchange Bank.
“There’s just nothing out there,” she said.
Commission Chairman David Stokes said the county should just invest its money, “bank our $9,000 and move on.”
Commissioners voted to accept Black’s recommendation.
• Commissioners reappointed Stokes as chairman and Larry White as vice chairman.
• Commissioners amended their meeting schedule to move the administrative meeting to 4 p.m. on the Tuesdays before regular commission meetings. Commission meetings will remain at 9 am. on the second and fourth Mondays of the month.
