WSN Lady Eagles defeat Hillcrest Friday; varsity and B-team fall

The W.S. Neal Lady Eagles were the only Eagle team to come away with a win Friday night at Hillcrest.
The Lady Eagles won 49-41 to improve their record to 5-16 overall and to 3-5 in area play.
The B-team Eagles lost 49-22 to drop their record to 2-14 overall while the varsity Eagles lost 77-53. The loss for the varsity Eagles dropped their overall record to 4-20 and they finished the area record with a 0-8 record.

Hillcrest 49, WSN B-team 22
After picking up their second win of the season Thursday night at home, the W.S. Neal B-team Eagles lost by 27 points Friday night at Hillcrest.
The Eagles were outscored 14-5 in the first quarter and 13-6 in the second quarter to go in at the half down by 16 points, 27-11.
In the third quarter, W.S. Neal was held to four points while the Jaguars posted 16 points to claim a 43-15 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, W.S. Neal outscored Hillcrest 7-6, but lost 49-22.
No other stats from this game are known as of press time.

WSN Lady Eagles 49, Hillcrest 41
The W.S. Neal Lady Eagles picked up their fourth win in five games Friday night at Hillcrest with a 49-41 win.
The Lady Eagles were outscored 14-13 in the first quarter but reclaimed the lead at the half 29-22 after outscoring the Jag 16-8 in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Hillcrest cut the lead to one point heading into the fourth, 37-36, as Hillcrest outscored them 14-8.
In the fourth, W.S. Neal ended the game on a 12-5 run to get the win by eight.
Keyvonnia Kyles led W.S. Neal with 16 points and Tiana Smith had 10. Megan Andrews chipped in nine points and Angelique Askew had six. Arianna Jones added four points and Glenashia Butler and Jasmine Crook had two each.
Andrews led with 15 rebounds and eight assists and Crook had five steals. The Lady Eagles were 15-for-32 from the line in the win.
“It was a great game,” W.S. Neal Lady Eagle head coach John Saxon said. “Everyone contributed across the board. It was a close game until the fourth quarter. I was very proud of Megan Andrews as she was controlling the boards all night long on both sides of the ball. If I had a player that would be player of the game, it would be Megan. This was a great win to put us in third place in the area.”

Hillcrest 77, WSN varsity Eagles 53
A tough first quarter for the W.S. Neal varsity Eagles resulted in a 24-point loss Friday at Hillcrest.
The Eagles were outscored 19-8 in the first quarter and 29-21 in the second quarter to trail by 19 points, 48-29, at the half.
In the third quarter, the Jaguars outscored the Eagles 15-10 to extend their lead to 24 points, 63-39, heading into the fourth. In the fourth, both teams scored 14 points each as the Jaguars claimed the win 77-53.
“We really played better than we have played all year Friday,” W.S. Neal varsity Eagle head coach Derek Roberts said. “The second quarter was really a high scoring quarter for both teams. We lost the game in the first when they went on a 19-8 run and we never recovered. Although we fought back, we never could recover. We have one more game against Flomaton on Friday and then the area tournament.”
Donovan Millican had 15 points and Josiah Nettles and Jalen Harrod had 13 each. Montrel Banks chipped in four points and had seven rebounds.
