WSN baseball begins with a win Monday at Atmore

The W.S. Neal varsity baseball team got off to hot start in their 2011 season opener Monday in Atmore as they cruised their way to a 19-4 win to start 1-0.
Playing as the home team (game was originally set to be played in East Brewton) the Eagles fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning but responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 6-2 after the first inning.
W.S. Neal would add two runs in the second inning to claim an 8-2 lead after two innings.
Atmore plated one run in the top of the third inning, but W.S. Neal would respond with six of their own to hold a 14-3 lead after three innings of play.
Atmore added one run in the fourth and W.S. Neal followed with three and two more in the fifth inning to get the win by 15.
Keith Bradley got the start on the mound and the win going five innings and allowing six hits, walked four and struck out seven.
Hunter Mullins had a single for the Eagles and Hayden Cooper had a double along with Christian Purvis, Logan Williamson, Damion Williams, and Dylan Godwin.
Bradley and Brian Settle both had singles in the win.
In JV action, W.S. Neal cruised to an 11-0 win to start their season 1-0.
No stats were known as of press time.
W.S. Neal will play in their own Eagle Classic Friday and Saturday in East Brewton.
The Eagles will play along with Northview, Flomaton, and Jay. W.S. Neal will take on Jay at 6:30 p.m. Friday night and will return to action Saturday at 10 a.m. against Flomaton and a 5:30 p.m. game against Northview.
