The Brewton Cal Ripken 9-10 girls softball team has a big trip later this month — to the Cal Ripken World Series.

The team earned the right Sunday when they won the state 10-under title with a 19-1 victory over South Alabama in four innings.

“These girls have had a great summer, and they have done a wonderful job preparing for this all-star tournament,” head coach Will Ruzic said. “We had a great tournament and we put it all together in the championship game. The pitching, hitting, base running and defense was spectacular. This is a great group of girls to coach. They will remember this for the rest of their lives.”

The Cal Ripken World Series will be held July 21-24 in Lewisburg, Tenn.
