All three T.R. Miller Lady Tiger volleyball teams picked up a “black out” win over the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles Thursday in Brewton as the Lady Tigers swept W.S. Neal.
Brewton Middle School earned a 2-1 win over W.S. Neal Middle School while the T.R. Miller Lady Tiger JV and varsity teams defeated the Eagles 2-0 and 3-0 respectively.
In middle school action, Brewton lost set one 25-22 before win set two 25-18 and set three 17-15.
In JV action, T.R. Miller won 25-20 and 25-18 while the varsity Lady Tigers won 25-19, 25-15 and 25-7.
The middle school games for both teams ended their season with Brewton Middle School finishing 4-3 and W.S. Neal finishing 9-3.
T.R. Miller’s JV team improved to 7-1 and the varsity team improved to 15-3 while W.S. Neal’s JV team fell to 3-6 and the varsity team fell to 6-11.
“I was proud of our overall effort,” T.R. Miller Lady Tiger head coach Greg White said. “We have been very up and down over the last few weeks. We have been pretty inconsistent in everything we have done. I thought tonight, we were consistent in everything. We served the ball well, our hitters did a really good job of hitting the ball. We had a good night of setting. I think we all worked together and tonight, I think we worked together and I was proud of that. I was glad all the seniors had a great night on senior night. Several good things happen tonight and we had some big plays and a senior finished it off with a kill. So I was proud of that. I appreciate all the support and all the fans that came out wearing black for us tonight.”
White said he was also proud of his JV team.
“I was extremely proud of the JV team tonight,” White said. “These kids haven’t played in over a week and they came out and played possibly their best match of the season. They are really starting to figure things out and it is starting to show out their on the court. They did a very nice job.”
Brewton Middle School Lady Tiger head coach Kim Owens said her team finished the season in a good way.
“This was a big win over a very good Neal team,” Owens said. “I am really proud of the way the girls finished this season. We won our final three matches to finish with a 4-3 record. We really started playing well together towards the end of the season. This group of girls worked really hard and they were a pleasure to coach.”
W.S. Neal Lady Eagle head coach Jeff Haney said the loss Thursday to T.R. Miller was disappointing.
“This was a big game and anytime we play T.R. Miller in anything, it is a big game,” Haney said. “Even losing 3-0, this was the best we played in two weeks. I know that sounds crazy, but it really is the best we played in two weeks. I don’t know if it was playing up because we knew it was T.R. Miller or if it was just our time to finally get out of the rut or what, but it was better. We still have a lot to work on. We still have our ups and downs. There were some things that were not where it needed to be or the score would be a lot different. It is something we can use to build on for the county tournament next week and other things to that nature. Overall, I am not too disappointed.”
