In the championship game of the 10U all-star Thursday in Evergreen, the Brewton all-stars dropped a 14-4 decision to Opp to finish as runner-up.
The loss was the second loss to Opp for Brewton who went 3-2 overall in the tournament.
Although they fell short in the title game, Brewton will still advance to the state tournament as the district runner-up.
The top two teams in each district are invited to state, which will be held in Florence this year. The team has to report Friday, June 29 and the tournament starts on June 30.
“This team is a young team with a lot of heart and a lot of character,” Brewton head coach Chris Coleman said. “They don’t give up. That is the biggest thing. They are a close-knit group of guys that play hard and they all get along really well and they just play hard as a team. They just don’t give up. That is our main focus.”
As for going to the state tournament next week, Coleman said it is a large cost on the team and parents to go that far.
“Any help we can get will be appreciated,” Coleman said.

Thursday: Opp 14, Brewton 4
Needing to defeat Opp twice Thursday to take the district championship, things went downhill fast for Brewton as Opp claimed the championship with a 14-4 win.
Brewton committed four errors in the loss and left 10 runners on base—twice leaving the bases loaded.
Opp scored one run each in the first three innings, all on Brewton errors, to take a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the third.
Brewton would score two runs in their half of the inning to tie the game at 3-3.
From there, Brewton would be held to one run in the bottom of the fourth while Opp scored three in the top of the fourth and four each in the fifth and sixth innings.
“I think we have a good enough team to play with Opp,” Coleman said. “We are good enough to compete, but we just have to quit making mistakes. We need to take care of the baseball. That is one of our main things is taking care of the baseball and when we get runners in scoring position, we have to convert them into runs.”
Brewton was held to five hits in the game while Opp pounded out 11 hits and made only one error in the 10-run win.
Kyle Blevins, Blake Jernigan and Nolan Atkinson all had a single each while Whitley Lisenby had one RBI.
Stone Martin continue his hot bat has he had two singles and two RBIs.
On the mound, Jernigan took the loss as he worked 4 1/3 innings and allowed 10 hits, 10 runs, seven earned, walked four and struck out one.
Martin went the next 1 1/3 innings and allowed four runs, three earned, and walked six.
Logan Bush went the final 1/3 inning and allowed one hit.

Wednesday: Brewton 13, Covington County 3
After suffering their first loss in the tournament Tuesday, Brewton fell into the loser’s bracket and faced Covington County again but got a dominant pitching performance from Landon Sims to stay alive with a 13-3 win.
The win set up a rematch with Opp Thursday.
In the game Wednesday, Brewton led Opp 6-0 after three innings and cruised to the 10-run win in five innings.
On the mound, Sims went five innings and allowed two hits, three runs, walked none and struck out two.
“The defense played really well behind Sims in effort to keep Covington County batters and base runners in control,” head coach Coleman said.
At the plate for Brewton, Stone Martin led the charge for Brewton in the 10-run win. Martin went 4-for-4 with two triples, a double and a single and had four RBIs and scored two runs.
Logan Bush went 2-for-3 with two singles and scored one run and Nolan Atkinson was 1-for-1 with a double and scored one run.
Jaxson Flores was 1-for-1 with a single and scored two runs while Sims was 1-for-2 with a triple and scored two runs.
Miller Hart and Blake Jernigan scored two runs in the win while Kyle Blevins scored 1 run.
