BMS basketball teams split with Lyeffion Thursday

After having a 16-day break between their last games, the Brewton Middle School basketball teams took to the court Thursday at home against Lyeffion and the Lady Tigers came away with a win while the boys fell in defeat.
Brewton last played Nov. 13 at Pollard.
With the win Thursday night, the Brewton Middle School girls improved to 5-1 while the boys of Brewton fell to 0-6 with the loss.
The games Thursday were the first of three home games to end the season. The BMS teams will be back in action at home Monday with a 3:30 p.m. tip time against McCall.
Brewton will end their season Tuesday with a 5 p.m. game against Andalusia.
Earlier this season the girls defeated McCall but suffered their lone loss of the season to Andalusia while the boys lost to both McCall and Andalusia.

BMS girls 24, Lyeffion 7
The Brewton Middle School Lady Tigers held the Lyeffion Lady Yellow Jackets scoreless in the second and fourth quarters Thursday night as they cruised to a 24-7 win.
Brewton led Lyeffion 8-4 after the first quarter before outscoring Lyeffion 5-0 in the second to take a 13-4 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Brewton edged out Lyeffion 4-3 to increase their lead to 17-7 heading to the fourth.
In the fourth, the Lady Tigers ended the game on a 7-0 run to get the win by 17.
Destiny Watson led in the win with nine points while Morgan Longmire had seven. Akilah Brazile finished with six points while Brianna Dees and Jakyra Spears both chipped in one point each.
Brewton was 5-for-17 from the free throw line in the win while Lyeffion was 1-for-3.

Lyeffion 31, BMS boys 23
Despite 17 points from Marcus Paul and a furious rally in the fourth quarter, the Brewton Middle School boys basketball team remained winless Thursday night at home as Lyeffion earned a 31-23 win over the Tigers.
Down by 11 points heading into the fourth quarter, 24-13, Brewton cut the Yellow Jacket lead to six points three times before the Jackets pulled away to get the win by eight.
Brewton cut the lead to 29-23 with 33.4 seconds left but could not get any closer.
Lyeffion jumped out to an 8-0 lead on the Tigers and led 8-2 after one quarter of play.
In the second, Brewton was outscored 8-7 as Lyeffion increased their lead to 16-9 at the halftime break.
In the third quarter, Brewton was doubled up by the Yellow Jackets 8-4 as the Tigers fell behind 24-13 heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, Brewton outscored Lyeffion 10-7 but took the loss by eight.
Along with Paul’s 17 points, Hayden Atkinson finished with four points while Joshua Jolly chipped in two points.
Brewton was 3-for-9 from the free throw line while Lyeffion went 3-for-15.
