Warhawk baseball splits with Bishop State Sunday in Mobile

The Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball team saw their five-game winning streak end in their first game against Bishop State Sunday in Mobile, but came away with a win in the second game of the day.
In game one Sunday—after games were rained out Saturday—JDCC lost 6-5. In the second game, the Warhawks defeated the Wildcats 18-5. Sunday’s split improved JDCC to 13-16 overall and to 9-9 in conference play.
In game one, JDCC led Bishop 5-4 after the top of the seventh inning, but surrendered one run to the Wildcats in the bottom of the inning and one in the bottom of the ninth to take the loss by one.
Nick Helton was the pitcher of record for the Warhawks and was joined on the mound by Trey Marshall and Tyler Henry.
The trio of pitchers went 8 2/3 innings and allowed nine hits, six runs, five earned, walked three and struck out three.
At the plate for the Warhawks, Jonathan Moore and Craig Headley were both 2-for-4 with Headley having one RBI. Logan Hill added one RBI.
Alex Jones went 1-for-2 with one RBI while Michael Fox and Brandon Davis were both 1-for-4.
In game two, trailing Bishop 5-2 after five innings, JDCC plated five runs in the sixth inning and 11 in the seventh to get the 13-run win.
Roman Donofro and Garrett Davis pitched for JDCC with Davis earning the win.
The duo went seven innings and allowed 10 hits, five runs, five earned, walked two and struck out seven.
JDCC pounded out 14 hits in the win. Dake Rivers was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and Donfro was 1-for-1 with one RBI along with Headley. Davis went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs while John-Mark Cosby was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Alex Jones was 2-for-5 with two RBIs, Tanner Zant was 1-fof-3, Goins was 1-for-1 with two RBIs and a double, Taylor Fought was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Hill was 1-for-2.
