JDCC Warhawk baseball in state’s Final Four

The Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball team continued their winning ways at the state tournament Monday as they improved to 3-1 in the tourney and to 24-23 overall with a 6-5 win over Shelton State.
JDCC’s win put them in the Final Four at the state tourney. The Warhawks were scheduled to play Alabama Southern Tuesday at 4 p.m. With a win, JDCC would have faced Faulkner State at 7:30 p.m. for the right to play Chatt. Valley in the state championship game Wednesday at 1 p.m. If JDCC clinched a spot in the state tourney game, they would have to win twice. The second game is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday.
In Monday’s game, JDCC led Shelton 2-0 after four innings and 6-0 after the top of the eighth inning.
Shelton scored one run in the bottom of the inning and four in the ninth to cut JDCC’s lead to 6-5, but the Warhawks were able to hang on for the one-run win.
Scott Robertson earned the win on the mound for JDCC as he went five innings and allowed three hits, two runs, one earned, walked one and struck out three.
Tyler Henry earned the save going one inning.
Mitchell Peterson and Trey Marshall also pitched in the win.
At the plate for the Warhawks of JDCC, John-Mark Cosby had two hits while Alex Jones went 2-for-4 with a homerun and three RBIs. Brandon Davis added two hits and one RBI while Craig Headley had one hit and one RBI. Dake Rivers chipped in one RBI while Taylor Fought added a hit in the Warhawk win.
