Second half dooms JDCC basketball at Enterprise
A good first half for the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk basketball team was followed by a bad second half Monday in Enterprise as the Warhawks took a 71-51 conference loss to Enterprise State.
The Warhawks of JDCC led Enterprise 25-23 at the halftime break, but was outscored by 22 points—48-26—to take the loss by 20 points. With the loss for the Warhawks, JDCC fell to 2-8 overall and to 0-2 in conference play.
While his team took another loss, JDCC head coach Allen Gainer was proud of what his team showed him in the loss.
“We finally played with the intensity level we have to have, but turned the ball over 32 times and missed easy shots,” Gainer said. “We are showing signs of figuring out how we have to play, so I am encouraged that we are going to turn things around.”
Michael Hutchins led the Warhawks with nine points while Christian Jones added eight. JaQuan Threatt finished with seven points along with Mikwese Claybourne.
Darren Wilson and Chris Oden both finished with six points while Sherman Rountree added five points. Ty Hairston chipped in one point and Keaynon Gulley added one in the loss.
Hutchins led with 11 rebounds while Threatt led with seven assists. Jones finished with two blocks to lead in the loss while Oden and Bell both finished with two steals each to lead the Warhawks.
JDCC finished with 50 rebounds in the loss with 17 coming on offense and 33 on defense. Enterprise finished with 16 on offense and 28 on defense for a total of 44. Enterprise committed only 13 turnovers in the loss.
The Warhawks shot 33.9 percent from the field while Enterprise shot 41.9 percent.
JDCC finished 7-for-14 from the free throw line while Enterprise shot 13-of-30.
JDCC will be back in action Tuesday, Jan. 21 at home against Chattahoochee Valley. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and will be a conference game for the Warhawks.
