Another four suspected drug dealers were arrested this week as part of the largest roundup operation in Brewton Police Department history.
Last Monday, the BPD issued nearly 60 felony drug warrants for some 25 known drug dealers.
Police captured 11 and were actively seeking 13 others after the day’s event. Now that number is down by four after police arrested Josh Moore, Alexis Bailey, Ricardo Smith and Andre Campbell, said Sgt. Josh Stanley, roundup coordinator, Tuesday.
The initial investigation began after sightings of suspected drug transactions occurring in various locations throughout the city were reported in November, Stanley said. Officers expected to arrest five to 10; however, the scope quickly expanded.
To launch the operation, the department sought assistance from U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force – an effort coordinated by BPD Sgt. Steven Ferguson, who is assigned to that task force.
Stanley said those arrested face a variety of drug charges including distribution and possession and include:
• Andrae Campbell;
• Ricardo Smith;
• Joshua Moore; and,
• Alexus Bailey.
Stanley said Moore and Bailey were located in Navarre, Fla., and Smith’s girlfriend, Gloria Grace, was also arrested and charged with hindering prosecution.
“She was hiding him out here in Brewton and withheld that information from police,” Stanley said. “As a result, she was charged. We are still trying to locate for Jermaine Montgomery, Kevin Campbell, Bailey Robertson, Curtis Cottman, Jordan Knight and Mac McCreary.
“The marshal task force is still in Brewton, and we will be looking every day until everyone is rounded up,” he said. “We know they are running and hiding, but slowly, we are finding them.”
