Mr. Jim Mallard, 105, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 in a Mobile hospital. He was a native of Coy in Wilcox County and a resident of Atmore for almost 80 years. He was a member of Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church and a self-employed farmer who had been retired for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sid and Virginia Mallard; his wife, Mattie Morgan Mallard and all of his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by five daughters, Florence Terrell of Atmore, Hattie Davis of Cleveland, Ohio, Mattie McGill, Louise Dickenson and Mary Tims, all of Mobile; five sons, Sid Mallard of Atmore, James Mallard of Denver, Colo., Eddie C. Mallard of Fayetteville, N.C., Ike Mallard and Rev. Arthur Mallard, both of Mobile; 36 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct 9, from 1 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Turner Funeral Chapel with a family hour from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m. at Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore with Dr. A.L. Durant Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel directing.
