Brewton resident and business owner Carol Gordy is among the Alabamians chosen to participate in a series of retreats and classes to promote and ignite leadership within the state.
Leadership Alabama is a statewide program of Alabama leaders engaged in creating a network for positive change. Representatives of the group announced that Gordy was among those selected to its class for 2002-03. The classes are designed to trigger open dialogue and response to the concerns of the state.
According to Executive Director Barbara Larson, the project has two goals - education and networking.
Gordy, along with 54 other members of the class, met in Birmingham for the orientation retreat where they were encouraged to make a critical examination of preconceptions about themselves, their communities and our state. The orientation serves as a springboard for other discussions throughout the program year, which began in September and will end in July.
Other retreats are scheduled for Mobile, Huntsville, Selma, Anniston and Montgomery.
Gordy is the owner, chairperson and CEO of Natural Decorations, Inc.
