Mrs. Bertha Jane Jackson Brooks, 87, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002 in a Pensacola nursing facility. She was a native of Escambia County, Ala. and a former resident of Montgomery before moving to Brewton in 1985. She was a member of Catawba Springs Baptist Church and a retired manager from retail sales with 30 years of service. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Bolton and Bessie Kent; a granddaughter, Debbie Brooks McClung and one great-grandson, Phillip Marcus Wooten.
She is survived by her husband, Lavon Brooks of Brewton; four daughters, Sue Wooten of Atmore, Donna Yvonne Smith of Brownwood, Texas, Lois Montel of Brewton and Jane Synder of Gainesville, Fla.; three sons, Robert Brooks and Mickey Brooks, both of Brewton and Johnny Brooks of Montgomery; two brothers, C.C. Jackson Jr. of Brewton and Joseph Jackson of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Currington officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
