Mr. Leon Harrison Smith, 77, of the Appleton community, died Sunday, March 9, 2003 at a local hospital after a brief illness. He was a native of Conecuh County and a former resident of Dora, Ala. before moving to Brewton in 1987. He was a retired civil engineer with Alabama Power Company and was a member of the New Home Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Golden Smith.
He is survived by three sons, Paul Michael Smith and Wayne E. Smith, both of Mobile and Kenneth Smith of Brewton; two daughters, Ethel McDuffie of Semmes, Ala. and Teri L. Smith of Brewton; one sister, Myrtle Luke of Carrie, Miss.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 12, at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brian Bruley officiating. Burial will follow in Weaver Cemetery in Appleton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
