Royals, Yankees earn wins

The Yankees and Royals got off to a fast start in the Brewton Little League 11-12-year-old division.
Yankees 9, Rockies 3
Strong pitching and speed on the basepaths helped led the Yankees to an opening day victory over the Rockies.
Grant DeFrancisco earned the victory on the mound for the Yanks, giving up two runs and striking out five. Corey Williams pitched in relief, striking out 10 batters while giving up only one run.
Leaders at the plate were: Corey Williams, 1-for-2 with four stolen bases and three runs scored; Landon Sowell, 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and a run scored; DeFrancisco, one stolen base and one run scored; Matthew Lane, 1-for-3, four stolen bases and three runs scored; Cameron Miller, 1-for-3 with a double, one stolen base and one run scored; Gordon Jones, 1-for-3 with a stolen base; Terez Lane, 1-for-2 with a stolen base and Walter Smith, 1-for-1 with one run scored.
Malcolm McMillan pitched the complete game for the Rockies, giving up nine runs on seven hits while striking out six.
Leaders at the plate for the Rockies were: Brent Odom, 1-for-2 with a solo homerun with an RBI; Taylor Berry, 1-for-2; Mikey Roye, one run scored; Paul Busby, 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Brian Sims, one run scored.
Royals 10, Reds 0
Two Royals pitchers combined to shut out the Reds, 10-0, on opening day.
Evan Burkett earned the victory for the Royals, pitching four innings, giving up three hits and seven strikeouts. Garrett Robinson came into the game in relief, striking out two batters in one inning of work.
Leaders at the plate for the Royals were: Evan Burkett, 1-for-3 with a triple and one run scored; Sam Sharpe, 1-for-3 with a solo homerun, an RBI and one run scored; Todd Robinson, 1-for-4 with one RBI, one stolen base and one run scored; Grant McMullen, 1-for-1 with one run scored; Corey Rilling, 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored; Stephen Warren, 1-for-3 with one run scored; Jacob Gunter, 1-for-1 with a double, one RBI and a run scored; Shane Thomas, one run scored and Abe Hildreth, one run scored.
Robert Knowles pitched four innings four the Reds, striking out four. Mabry Cook struck out one in one inning of work.
Cook also led at the plate, hitting and double and Houston Simmons went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
