Mrs. Nina Grace Pierce Powell, 86, died Saturday, June 7, 2003 in a Jay hospital. She was a native of Butler County and a long-time resident of Flomaton. She and her late husband, Marvin E. Powell, owned and operated Powell's Cafe in Flomaton for many years. She later drove a school bus before she retired in 1984. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin E. Powell; an infant daughter, Linda Fayette; her parents, John N. and Belle Pierce and a son, Leonard Marvin 'Pete' Lee, Jr.
She is survived by sons, Mickey Powell, Larry Powell and Kenny Powell, all of Flomaton, and Tony Powell of Cantonment; a daughter, Glenda Diane Powell Stafford of Houston, Texas and a step-daughter, Imogene Powell Newberry of Alex City, Ala.; 23 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 10, at 10 a.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Homer Stewart and Rev. Jerry Keese officiating. Burial followed at Catawba Cemetery in Pollard. Pallbearers were grandchildren, Kenny Powell, Kevin Powell, Steve Pierce, Corrie Powell, Paul Powell and Mickey Powell.
