A Brewton man is recovering from a gunshot wound and his wife is currently in jail charged with attempted murder after a shooting on Tuesday night.
April McCreary Thomas, 21, of 313 Alco Drive, was arrested on Wednesday after Brewton police officers found her at a residence in Evergreen. Her husband, Chris Thomas, 28, of 103-C Young Street, was in the intensive care unit at D.W. McMillan Hospital through Thursday and is recovering.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., the Brewton Police Department received a call of shots fired at Thomas's residence on Young Street. When officers arrived they found that Thomas had been wounded.
Nicholson said Thomas identified the shooter at that time.
The search for McCreary-Thomas led investigators to the Alco community where they found the suspects' vehicle parked behind a house. After searching the home, officers determined she was not there.
The following day, officers received a tip that McCreary-Thomas was in Evergreen. Local police cooperated with officials with the Evergreen Police Department and the Conecuh County District Attorney's Office to search two homes. After a search of one home yielded no results, BPD officer Gene Oliver, Sgt. Russell Martin and Sgt. Eric Suarez, along with Conecuh County officials, found McCreary-Thomas at the second residence. She was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
Thomas was allegedly separated from his wife and was living with Amy Nisewonger at the Young Street apartment. Nisewonger said that she and Thomas are engaged and that they have had encounters with McCreary-Thomas in the past.
Nisewonger said she was on the scene of the shooting on Tuesday.
Nisewonger said she called 911 and that an ambulance from D.W. McMillan Ambulance Service arrived very quickly.
