Congratulations to new Miss Alabama
Last weekend, Brewton native Catherine Crosby was crowned the 2003 Miss Alabama. Facing 49 other contestants from across the state, Catherine competed in four categories and scored high enough to take the honor of wearing Alabama's crown and will represent the state in the upcoming Miss America pageant in New Jersey.
While there are various opinions about beauty pageants in general, nobody can deny the hard work and effort that these contestants put forth in order to participate in these events, especially at this level. Those who have been exposed to the pageant world know that there is much more involved than a pretty smile and walking down a runway. Instead, contestants are put through a grueling contest that involves an assortment of abilities and skills. Because they wear a smile on their face while competing doesn't mean it is easy.
In our view, the entire Brewton community should be very proud of Catherine and her achievements. Her crown is proof to everyone - especially youth - that hard work and dedication pays off. Congratulations, Miss Alabama!
