PUBLIC SALE
The Alabama Department of Corrections offers for sale at free and open competitive auction, approximately 510 head of steers and 500 head of heifers. The calves are predominantly crossbred Angus, with some Simmental, Charolais, Hereford, and Limousin breeding. Calves are medium and large #1 class and will be sorted by sex and weight class into approximately 13 lots located at the following state correctional facilities: Fountain Correctional Facility, Atmore, Alabama; C.A.F. State Cattle Ranch, Greensboro, Alabama; Red Eagle Honor Farm, Montgomery, Alabama; Limestone Farm, Harvest, Alabama. Average weight of lots will range from 475 to 750 pounds. All calves will be weaned and pre-conditioned at time of sale.
The auction will be held at the C.A.F. State Cattle Ranch farm office, 1132 Hale County Road 73, Greensboro, Alabama at 9:00 AM CDST on Tuesday, July 8, 2003. Cattle offered will be sold to the highest bidder on each lot. Bids will be based on a projected average weight for each lot less 2 or 3% shrinkage depending on location. A price adjustment slide will be in effect should projected lot average weights exceed actual lot averages at load-out by more than 10 pounds. Bid price adjustments will be at the rate of -$0.05/cwt for each pound above the 10-pound allowance. All cattle will be weighed at load-out on scales certified by the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries. Successful bidder will be required to move cattle within seven (7) calendar days of sale.
