First Baptist Church's mission's group gathered 38 people and went to Reynosa, Mexico June 20, and got back on June 27.
During that time the group served the people of Reynosa by handing out toys to the little children, and sharing the gospel with the adults as well as the children.
During the week, the mission's group divided into three teams, a construction team, a
Bible school team and a medical team.
The construction team put a roof on an elderly lady's home and put together, primed, and painted bunk beds for a local orphanage.
The Bible school team held a Bible school for the children of the town.
The medical team, which brought pharmaceuticals and other equipment, saw to medical needs of the people on three different days, free of charge.
There were also volunteers who helped in the orphanage doing such work as serving food, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping and mopping floors and other things to help the orphanage in any way they could.
What many people don't see is the behind the scenes work before the teams even leave for Mexico.
There are months of prayer, money raising, construction and donations.
The Vacation Bible School children raised over $3,000 dollars for Mission Mexico alone. A couple of men from the church pre-cut all the pieces of lumber for the bunk beds that were assembled at the orphanage in Reynosa.
The church would like to recognize T.R. Miller Mill Company, which donated six units of lumber, Cannon's Carpet of Brewton and Merritt Paint Supply of Pensacola which donated paints, Bondurant's, which gave building supplies and Pat Poole from Evergreen Transportation who sent a flatbed truck to transport all the supplies to Pharr, Texas.
Later the teams and other mission workers had to slowly take the lumber in small groups across the border into Mexico.
This is just one of the many times the group has gone to Mexico, and according to Mickey Flowers, member of FBC Brewton, it won't be the last.
The mission's group will be giving their testimonies and sharing pictures from the trip Sunday night, July 13 at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Brewton.
