Viewers may have noticed a new program on Brewton's channel 6 (Brewton TV) recently. Coffee with the Mayor and Mabry began airing earlier this spring, with the initial program featuring a conversation with William Lee Golden and Hank Locklin.
So far, three programs have aired. Since the Golden/Locklin program was broadcast, shows featuring the Brewton Area YMCA and the 23rd annual Blueberry Festival have also been shown. Jennings said an additional three shows have been taped for broadcast at a later time.
He said that while the program has been in the planning stages for some time, it got started quickly when Golden and Locklin were in town together for the unveiling of several signs that proclaim Brewton the home of the two country music stars.
The show will feature different people and organizations that are making a difference in the community.
He said that several groups have already called with ideas.
Groups or individuals that have story ideas should contact Brande Agerton at 867-3224.
The program is filmed and produced at the studios of ATN Multimedia Productions, a service group within the local Alabama Technology Network center.
ATN Brewton Center Director Byron Dunn said that this program is only a glimpse of some of the changes coming at Brewton TV.
"This program is only the first in what we hope will be a line-up of many high quality local programs," Dunn said. "Within the next 30 days we also will bring a new visual format to Brewton TV."
According to Dunn, the new multi-window format will have a look and feel similar to CNBC, MSNBC, and CNN.
"We want Brewton TV to be a real source of information and to provide service to the community," said Dunn.
Mabry Cook is the co-host on the show. Jennings said that he offers a different viewpoint on topics.
The show's focus is designed to be on the guests, and the format lends itself to a conversation.
Vivian Layton, fitness director at the Brewton Area YMCA, said she had a great time during the taping of the show about programs at the YMCA.
She said that the questions developed as the conversation went on.
Jennings said that the shows are designed to run about 30 minutes, although that varies with the subject and people involved.
The show features an opening song about Brewton that was written and performed by Adam Locklin.
Coffee with the Mayor and Mabry airs locally on Tuesday and Thursday at at 6 and 8 p.m. It also broadcasts every morning at 6, 7, 8 and 9 a.m.
